General

Following problems we had with some race venues in 2017, we are grateful that we didn’t have issues with locations last year as runners heeded the instructions of marshals. We had a couple of issues with signage and shortage of marshals at one venue, in particular, however we have devised plans to mitigate this for 2019. We would remind everyone that we put on these races for the benefit of the running community – our club only seeks to cover its costs during each series. It should be borne in mind that organisation takes place on a best endeavours basis, being mindful of health and safety responsibilities, and trying to keep these events affordable for all. Errors can (and do!) occur at any event, in spite of all the planning we do, and please remember that runners enter at their own risk. As much as we would love to promise a rain-free series, like last year, I suspect we will not be so lucky but, whatever the weather and whatever the ability, we are confident that runners will enjoy this fabulous series.

Age Groups

All ages are as date of the first race of the series - no exceptions.

Fun Run: 0-10 yrs.

Juniors: 11 - 15yrs.

Seniors: >=16yrs.

You may run any course, but not with a race number in the 'wrong' event.

If you run in the 'wrong event', you will not be covered by any of our insurance.

Distances

Fun runs are pretty short, often around the perimeter of the parking field, or similar.

Junior races are typically a couple of miles and are often a reduced number of laps of the senior course.

Senior races are around 4-6 miles depending on terrain.

Senior Race

As a means of encouraging runners to join clubs and enter the whole series in advance, we have an attractive tariff and potential entrants can now pay for the whole programme at the following discounted rates*. This gives a paid-up entry to every race irrespective of how many races the runner wishes to participate in:

Electronic entries prior to 24 May 2019.

Staffs Moorlands AC members Full Series £28 (before 24 May 2019)

Other club members Full Series £32 (before 24 May 2019)

Non-club members Full Series £36 (before 24 May 2019)

*There is a small fee to pay for the electronic entry facility, which still works out at less than the cost of stamps, stationery and time – SMAC subsidises each electronic entry fee by £1.

We shall still accept pre-paid entries after 23 May, however these will need to be paid on the night of the first race at Tittesworth (30 May 2019) and will rise to:

Staffs Moorlands AC members Full Series £32 (payable on 30 May 2019)

Other club members Full Series £36 (payable on 30 May 2019)

Non-club members Full Series £40 (payable on 30 May 2019)

Please note: Club membership is verified at the first race/handing out of race numbers – the same race number stays with the individual throughout the series

For runners who choose not to enter the whole series, there will still be the facility to enter each race on an ad-hoc basis on the night and the cost for each individual race will be:

Members of any club (SMAC or other) Each Race £7

Non-club members Each Race £8

Senior races start at 7.15pm with the exception of the first race which may be delayed slightly to allow for the increased administration that night (distribution of numbers, etc).

The minimum age for seniors is 16 on the day of the first race (30 May 2019).

After listening to feedback last year, we have reduced the qualifying threshold for a free t-shirt. Runners will need to have completed 6 events to qualify for a uniquely designed t-shirt, commemorating the series. These will be handed out at the last event, scheduled for Rudyard Lake on 18 July (runners who have pre-entered will receive a t-shirt but will need to be present at the last race to collect them as we cannot post the items due to cost).

Junior Race and Mini Race (Fun Run)

These will still be paid for each night with the costs held the same as last year with Junior entry costing £2 per race and the Fun Run being set at £1.

Juniors should be ready to race from 7.15pm (at some venues we set off the juniors before the seniors in which case the seniors’ start will be delayed slightly). The Fun Run will start earlier, at 6.45pm.
